Forex: Online Trading Safety: Why Some Trading Experts Risk Their Own Money When Teaching This Important Trading Tip

Remember this important online trading safety tip: The markets will not keep your money safe. Though this is a well known fact, many people find it quite hard to understand. They believe that, no matter what, the market and GOOD FOREX will ALWAYS COME BACK, as though this were a law.

But, there`s no such law. A good online trading safety tips is to remember that forex don`t always come back, and neither do markets. If you want to think about the market in terms of laws of nature, the best one is the law of gravity, specifically:

++ What goes up must come down.

This is especially true for forex and sectors that have risen extremely quickly. You can protect your capital and your profits from this natural market law by setting stops.

A stop is an order you place to sell or buy a position you own if it hits a specified price. It`s called a stop because it stops you from losing any more money on the position. If you`ve sold short, you can place a stop order to buy to cover if the stock rises to a specified price. Stops are not complicated to use, and they are an integral part of trading success.

When we use the word STOP, we`re referring to a stop loss order. This is an order that directs your broker to sell a position you hold if the stock drops to a specified price. If you`ve sold short, you can place a stop loss buy to cover order to get out of the position if it rises to a specified price. Once the stop is triggered, it`s immediately executed as a market order.

Here`s an online trading safety example. Let`s say you buy a stock at 50 dollars a share. You have reason to think it will rise, but you also realize it`s a risky trade. You know that if the stock drops below 48.50, it means there`s trouble with the trade and you`ll want out. So, after buying the stock, you place another order: a stop sell order at 48.40.

This tells the broker that if there is market action at 48.40, or below, to sell your shares immediately in the form of a market order. They`ll be sold at the current bid, whatever that is. This will happen automatically, so you won`t have to watch the stock closely. It also means you won`t be tempted to hold on longer, hoping that the stock will go back up.

In general, there are two types of stop orders: stop loss and stop limit. However, some brokers use slightly different names for various order types, and may not offer all order types to their clients. I`ve already described the stop loss order.

A stop limit order is an order to sell a position at a specific price and no lower than that price, if the stock drops to that price or to buy to cover a stock sold short at a specific price and no higher than that price if it rises to that price. Once the stop is triggered, the order is executed only if it can be executed at the limit price or better, it becomes a limit order. In my opinion, you shouldn`t use stop limit orders, it needlessly increases your risk. If a stock`s price is dropping fast, chances are good that a stop limit order won`t execute at all.

Let`s say the stock from the earlier example does drop. It hits 48.40, and the stop is triggered. The stop order becomes a market order to sell. This means that it will execute immediately at the current bid price. The same principles apply to stops on short positions. If you sell a stock short at 13 dollars, expecting it to go down, you should place a buy to cover order at, say, 13.75. If the stock suddenly rises sharply, you`re protected and you can always re short the stock at its peak price later.

Let`s go back to the stock the trader bought for 50 dollars. If the stock is falling slowly, the market order may execute at 48.40, slightly lower, or even, occasionally, slightly higher. If it`s falling quickly, it could execute a little below 48.40. If the stock is falling very quickly, it could execute well below 48.40.

The possibility that they could be stopped out of a position far below the trigger price is one reason traders may avoid using stops. Although this could happen, it`s better than the alternative, to keep holding the position while it goes even lower. Besides, in most cases the position will be stopped out quite near the trigger price. In addition to fearing a bad execution price, some people are afraid that the position will start to go back up immediately after their stop sell order`s been executed.

A stock may occasionally bounce right at the point where you set your stop, as a random occurrence. But, the smart trader weighs this rare frustration against all the times he`ll save much more money by using stops to get out of losing positions. Think of it as the cost of insurance. Just don`t forget this last online trading safety tip; using stops as insurance will occasionally cost you a little, but it will save you many times more in the long run, and you don`t often get a chance to insure against a law of nature.

"How To" Start Trading The Forex Market? (Part 6)

HOW TO READ FOREX PRICE CHARTS?

Forex Price Charts, what DO they mean and HOW to use them?

Important numerous facts as discipline, trading rules, not being greedy etc., but one of the most important things is:

LEARN to read the charts as Charts represent the lifeblood of the market.

I admit that reading charts, and interpreting patterns, are more an art than a skill. Base and apply your entry and exit decisions on YOUR OWN combined methods of technical and fundamental analysis.

FOREX charts, are easier to interpret and to use. They reflect a slower moving, stable economy of a country, compared to the stock market, with its daily drama of company reports, Wall Street Analysts and shareholder demands.

Unlike stocks, currency charts do not spend much time in trading ranges and have the tendency to develop strong trends. Furthermore, Forex with its 4 Mayor currencies is easier to analyze than tens of thousands of stocks.

(Mayor currencies are: USD/JPY, EUR/USD, GBP/USD and USD/CHF)

The complimentary FREE live charting software, with the ultimate cutting edge technology provided by http://www.fenixcapitalmanagement.com/will be absolutely sufficient for you to analyze and watch any one currency pair. Understanding just a few basic points about the technical analysis of currency chart can lead to increased profit potential.

Pricing - Price reflects the perceptions and action taken by the market participants. It is the dealing between buyers and sellers in the Over-The-Counter (OTC) or "interbank" market that creates price movement. Therefore, all fundamental factors are quickly discounted in price. By studying the price charts, you are indirectly seeing the fundamental and market psychology all at once , after all the market is fed by two emotions - Greed and Fear - and once you understand that, then you begin to understand the psychology of the market and how it relates to the chart patterns.

Data Window Chart - FCM and most online charting stations, when you click on a price bar or candlestick, it will display a small box of data usually called a display window which will contain the following items:

H = Highest Price L = Lowest Price O = Opening Price C = Close Price (or Last Price)

The most common types of price bars, used in FOREX trading, are the Bar Chart and the Candlestick chart:

Bars Charts -

Price bars are a linear representation (a line) of a period of time. This enables the viewer to see a graphic representation summarizing the activity of a specific time frame. As an example, I use 10 minutes, 60 minutes and daily time interval for my systems. Each bar has similar characteristics and tells the viewer several important pieces of information.

First, the highest point of the bar represents the highest price that was achieved during that time period. The lowest point of the bar represents the lowest price during the same period. Regular bars display a small dot on the left side of the bar which represents the opening price of the period and the small dot on the right side represents the closing price of the period.

Candlesticks - Japanese Candlesticks, or simply Candlesticks as they are now known, are used to represent the same information as Price bars. The only difference is that the difference between the open and close form the body of a box which is displayed with a color inside. A red color means that the close was lower than the open, and the blue color represents that the close was higher than the open.

If the box has a line going up from the box it represents the high and is called the wick. If the box has a line going down from the box, it represents the low and is called the tail.

Many interpretations can be made from these "candlesticks" and many books have been written on the art of interpreting these bars.

Chart Intervals & Time Frames:

A chart Time Scale & Period, or time frame, basically refers to the duration of time that passes between the OPEN and the CLOSE of a bar or candlestick.

For instance, with your broker software, you will be able to view a currency pair, in a 1-hour time frame over a 2-day period, 5-day period, 10-day period, 20-day period and 30- day period.

Most of the short-term time intervals (5-min and 1-min charts) are used for entry and exit points and the longer- term time intervals (1-hour and daily charts) are used to see where the general trend is.

Forex Scams: How To Spot Them A Mile Away

In recent years, investors have witnessed increased number of investment opportunities and offerings. While the complexity and success of these investment products vary, technological innovation has made the Forex market one of the fastest growth areas. Many of the leading Forex brokers reported up to 500% rise in the number of new retail customers. However, the growth of the Forex market has been accompanied by a sharp rise in foreign currency trading scams.

Many of these Forex scams are promoted on the radio, television, newspapers and the Internet. Investors who fall victim to these schemes, often lose all of their money. As an illustration, let?s examine the facts of a recent case involving Forex fraud and its consequences. W learned of a foreign currency trading opportunity through an infomercial on the radio. K, the owner of a Forex asset management firm, spoke during the infomercial, promising viewers significant profits with minimum risk. After seeing the infomercial, W contacted K, and later attended a seminar presented by K and his firm. The seminar was so convincing that W wrote a check to K for $100,000.

Several months later, W received statements (which were false) from K?s firm reflecting significant returns on his initial $100,000 investment. Thereafter, W attended another seminar and decided to invest more money. W took a loan and invested another $800,000 in K?s Forex trading operation. Short while after W?s second investment, the Securities and Exchange Commission filed a complaint against K and his firm for engaging in a scheme to defraud investors. K?s firm?s assets were frozen, including the $900,000 invested by W. A receiver was appointed to distribute the remaining assets of K?s firm to defrauded investors. The assets were distributed on pro-rata basis with no legal preference given to any of the victims. Since K?s firm?s assets were not enough to satisfy all of the defrauded investor?s claims, W received only about $22,000 of the $900,000 he invested.

Since a whole book can be written on the various tactics and methods used by Forex scam artists, in this article, I will focus on the major warning signs that one needs to identify to avoid falling victim to Forex swindlers.

1. Promises of Little or No Risk

If you encounter a Forex firm that claims to have developed a foreign currency trading strategy that carries very little or no risk, stay away. The reason Forex trading can be very profitable is because it also carries a very high risk of loss. The Forex market is very volatile, and, without good money management, an investor can lose most if not all her capital within few days. Thus, individuals and firms who make claims that are far from market realities, as is riskless Forex trading, are really after your money.

2. Guarantees of Large Profits

Beware of firms that guarantee large profits in Forex trading. These so called ?guarantees? are mere ploys to entice investors and make them believe that their money is safe and that they will definitely make large profits. Such claims are simply untrue, because even the best professional traders cannot guarantee that they will make a profit any given day. The Forex market, as most financial markets, is very unpredictable. Hence, be suspicious of such claims and those who make them.

3. Employment Ads For Forex Traders

Many Forex trading firms use employment ads to attract individuals with capital to trade using their systems. The employment ads, which often appear in newspapers and on the Internet, state that a foreign currency trading firm is looking for individuals to teach them how to trade the foreign currency market using firm capital. Those who reply to the ad are convinced by the firm that they will make a fortune trading currencies if they participate in the firm?s training program. During the training process, which often occurs on a demo system, the novice traders are encouraged and told that their demo trading records show that have made significant profits, that they are ready to make real money and would very successful. Despite the firm?s assessment of the novice trader as a brilliant newcomer, no firm capital is provided to the trader, instead the excited novice is told to use her own capital to trade using the firm?s platform. In addition to various fees imposed on traders using the firm?s platform, the Forex firm makes money as an introducing broker. Each time the novice trader trades through the firm?s system, a good part of the spread charged by the broker is shared and goes into the firm?s coffers. After few months, the novice trader loses all of her capital and leaves. The Forex firm, having made money during the novice trader?s short stint, moves on to new traders eager to become rich trading foreign currencies.

4. Is the Forex Firm a CFTC or NFA Member?

Before you sign a check and give your capital to a Forex company, make sure you investigate the entity. Check to see whether the Forex firm, with which you want to do business, is registered with the United States Commodity Futures Trading Commission or the National Futures Association. Many scam artists falsely claim that their firms are registered with the CFTC or the NFA to gain a perspective investor?s trust. Do not trust anyone, research the firm and the background of the individuals involved before parting with your hard earned money.

The Internet has paved the way for many new opportunities for retail investors. The Forex market is both exciting and fast paced. Investor?s who are careful and diligent are likely to avoid the perils of this market, and will profit from the growth and opportunities of foreign currency trading.

Three Important Forex Concepts For New Traders.

As you enter the world of Forex you will find yourself learning and using many new concepts that you may not have used or heard before.

Three of this important concepts that you must understand are what "Pips" are, What "Volume" is and what you do when "Buying" and "Selling Short". They may look more like four concepts but Buying and Selling are like the two faces on the same coin so we can consider them as a single concept.

Lets first introduce what Pips are. Maybe you have heard or read already how many pips a day you can make using some trading system. In short, currency pairs prices will go out to 4 significant digits. For example; if one currency pair is trading for 1.3451 then an increase to 1.3452 would be a "one-pip" increase in the price of this particular currency. This is an increase of one hundredth of a percent of the value of the currency pair you are trading. And depending the type of account you have, regular or mini, each pip will have a value of $10 or $1. So if you make 10 pips a day with a regular account you would have made $100 and with a mini-account $10.

Now we can talk about the Volume; trading Volume is a quantity that tells traders how much money is being traded at one particular moment. And the forex market is known by its high volume of trading during most of the time markets are open. Some times there can be spikes in the volume during some type of news breaks and during the time New York stock exchange is open. The volume of transactions in Forex, even in a slow day, will always be much higher than the volume traded in other large exchanges at their full capacity.

Now maybe the most obvious of the concepts. Buying refers to the acquisition of a particular currency pair to open a trade. Selling short refers to the selling of a particular currency to open a trade. When you Buy, you are expecting the price of the currency pair to increase with time, i.e., you buy cheap to sell high. In the case of Selling short, it looks a bit more complicated. Here the way to make money is to initially sell a currency pair that you think will lose value in a given period of time and then, once it happened, you will buy it back at the new price but now you can sell it at the previous greater price the currency had when you opened the trade, so you earn the difference in prices. I know it seems kind of tricky, but once you are in front of your trading station it will look much simpler.

Understand well these three concepts and you will start with solid steps you trading career.

Trading Forex To Advance Your Financial Position

Everyday, currencies are traded in an international foreign exchange market, otherwise known as the forex market, with the main marketplaces (otherwise known as bourses) existing in the world?s financial centes New York, London, Tokyo, Frankfurt and Zurich. Historically, the only way to participate was from the trading floor of one of these bourses, but today, people can trade forex from anywhere through a secure internet connection and a PC.

Today?s traders operate in a global network, taking positions in the market and making investment decisions based on either relative value between two currencies, or a particular currency?s actual price. Currency value fluctuations are constantly renegotiated through trading activity, and this activity, and the corresponding currency values are also indicators of the levels of currency supply.

An example of market behaviour greater demand for the Euro might indicate a weakening supply. Low supply and increased demand will drive the price of the Euro up against other currencies like the dollar, until the price better reflects what traders are prepared to pay when short supply exists. Another way to look at this situation is this higher demand means it will cost more dollars to buy the Euro, which equates to a weakening of the dollar in comparison. Analysis of situations such as in this example forms the basis for a trader?s investment decisions, and they will purchase or sell currency accordingly.

This should be remembered, as while many see the foreign exchange market as the vehicle for converting their home currency while travelling abroad, many others choose to use the market to advance their financial position and secure their future.

Day Trading Forex Market Behaviour

Technology advances like the internet have spawned a new craze, where anyone with a secure internet connection prepared to undertake a small amount of training can engage in trading foreign exchange on the forex market.

Just as a day trader will closely track stock price movements on the Dow Jones Industrial Average, all over the world forex traders monitor currency fluctuations in a similar fashion.

Forex traders have the aim of using the smallest amount of one currency, say the US dollar, to purchase another currency like the British Pound. If supply of the pound lessens in a busy market, it will cost more dollars to buy pounds, and the forex trader hopes to sell their pounds at a higher than their purchase price. In many respects, this type of trading behaviour is very similar to trading in stocks, where the aim of nearly all traders is to buy low and sell high.

The trading process works under a bid/ask system. In the above example, a forex trader might bid 10 dollars in return for 5.7 British pounds, and the seller of the pounds could be asking 11 dollars for the same amount of pounds. If the seller accepts the bid, the trader then hopes the pound continues to increase in price, so that when time comes to sell, they can get in excess of the 10 dollars initially paid.

As only registered traders have access to this auction process, most online speculators will trade through a bank or broking house. Such brokerages charge a commission for facilitating the trades, and forex traders should consider these transaction costs when calculating their selling offer when time comes to exit their position, as this will influence their profit margin.

The global foreign exchange market can trade in excess of a trillion dollars a day. Sheer market size means there is considerable money to be made, and lost, through miscalculation. It is neither a guaranteed, nor easy path to riches, so traders should be educated in how to play the market. Instructional packages are available, and should be carefully reviewed as they can easily range in quality and price. The Duty of A Forex Market Maker

The investor in the currency market takes for granted that a pair of currencies can be bought or sold at a moments notice.  Once an order is placed with a broker, the trade is executed within seconds.

The investor in the currency market takes for granted that a pair of currencies can be bought or sold at a moments notice.  Once an order is placed with a broker, the trade is executed within seconds. It is, of course, not as easy as that.

Whenever a pair of currencies is bought or sold, there must be someone at the other end of the transaction. It is very unlikely that the investor will always find someone who is interested in buying and selling the same two currencies at the same amount, and at the same time. Hence, the question remains, How is it possible that the forex investor can buy or sell at any time? This is where the forex market makers come in.

The forex market maker is a bank or brokerage company that stands ready, every second of the trading day with a firm bid and ask price. This is good for the investor because when the investor chooses to buy and sell a pair of currencies, the market maker will purchase from and sell to the investor, even if they do not have a buyer and seller lined up. In doing so, they are literally making a market for the currencies.

Forex market makers ensure that the market is always functional and that the currencies in it will always fetch the market rate. Forex market makers do so by updating their prices at intervals of at least 30 seconds and undertaking to trade if this is requested. Forex market makers must fulfill their obligations irrespective of whether the economic situation is favorable or unfavorable, or whether they lose or profit by doing so.

Typical forex market makers include Gain Capital, CMS Forex, Forex Capital Markets (FXCM), and Global Forex Trading, all of which are regulated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) of the USA.  Another prominent forex market maker is Saxo Bank, which is regulated by the Financial Services Authority (FSA) of Denmark.

Until recently, central banks, commercial banks and investment banks dominated the forex market. Due to the entry of forex market makers, other market players like international money brokers, large multinational companies, registered dealers, global money managers, and private speculators have entered the market in large numbers.

You no doubt have a ton of questions and are eager to learn what this popular investment option entails. This site is designed to give you the tools and techniques necessary to make smart investment decisions. Spend a little bit of time reading through the various articles and tools to decide whether FOREX trading is right for you, and how to begin investing.

What is the FOREX market?

The FOREX or FX market is simply the trading of currency. Investors have the opportunity to exchange one countrys currency for another countrys currency, often with very large returns. Unlike traditional investment opportunities in the past, the FOREX market is open to investors of all sizes and income levels. You do not have to be part of a large organization or bank to invest in currencies. Peter Bain Forex Trading Video Course

Perhaps, one of the most amazing things about the FOREX market is its enormous size. Currency trading is the investment worlds best kept secret, with a trading volume larger than stock and bond markets combined!

FOREX trading systems- what to look for

Many investors choose to employ a FOREX trading system when first starting out. These are specially designed methods, software and courses developed by professionals in the field. Not all trading systems are created equal, however. Do your research before committing to a particular FOREX trading system. Begin by asking the following:

1. How long have you been in business?
2. What type of credentials do you have?
3. Do you have customer testimonials?
4. Do you have a trial version?

Consulting the FOREX trading community may be very beneficial here. Consult community boards and chat rooms to find out what others are using. Many may not want to share their money making secrets, so you may have to get creative.

FOREX trading systems what is available to you?

After you have consulted your online directory and community boards, you probably have a list of half a dozen or more FOREX trading systems to choose from. We have compiled a list of some of the most popular trading systems options available to you. Use this list and go through the checklist available on this site to ensure that you make the most educated decision.

Choosing the right FOREX broker

If you are new to the FOREX market, it is recommended that you find a FOREX broker to help with your transactions. There are a wide variety of brokers, available to you, so be prepared to ask some questions. These include:

1. What is your spread?
(Hint: The lower the spread the more money you make!)
2. What are your credentials?
(Hint: There are certain affiliations you should look for.)
3. What tools are available to help me learn more?
(Hint: Not all broker firms are created equal. Find out who offers the best resources and information to help you make the smartest trading decisions.)
4. What is your leverage?
(Hint: This is the determining factor on how much money you are able to make with each investment.)

These and others will help you find the right FOREX broker to fit your personal needs and trading style. Dont settle for the first broker you come across!

Using technology to your advantage

The FOREX market has made an amazing transformation since the advent of the internet. Technology has now made it possible for smaller investors to play on the same level as larger corporations and banks. With as little as $300 dollars, anyone with a computer and a will to succeed can start trading currencies from the privacy of their home or office. Online FOREX trading has changed the way that investors do business. With access to your portfolio 24-hours a day, it is really very simple to get started. You can choose whether to hire a professional to handle your transactions, or you could choose to do them yourself.

Getting a competitive edge- FOREX trading strategies

The FOREX market is not an exact science, but there are several FOREX trading strategies that you can use to improve your odds. The two most common analysis methods are technical and fundamental analysis. Each method has its advantages and drawbacks, and may take some time to master. The important thing is to know the different indicators and reports that have an affect on the FOREX market. Once you understand what to look for you will have a better chance for success.

In summary

It doesnt matter whether you are an experienced stock or bond trader looking to expand your portfolio, or are a beginner to the world of FOREX trading, with a little bit of research you should be up and running in no time. Spend some time researching the options available to you, to ensure success and ask questions. Brian Channell is an online entrepreneur.
